Nigeria Completes ICAO Integration for Passport Checks

On July 13, 2026, the Nigerian government completed its integration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to improve passport checks. The ceremony took place at the ICAO headquarters in Montreal, Canada, and was led by Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller General of Immigration.

According to a statement issued by Akinlabi from the Nigeria Immigration Service, this integration will resolve challenges related to the authentication of Nigerian passports at select foreign border control points. The initiative involves the establishment of a chain of trust that allows for the automated confirmation of passport authenticity through the ICAO Public Key Directory (PKD).

This milestone reflects the Nigeria Immigration Service's ongoing investment in secure digital identity management and international border security cooperation, aligning with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda. The integration aims to promote global interoperability and facilitate seamless border clearance for holders of Nigerian passports.
