Nigeria Completes ICAO PKD Integration for Passport Security

On July 13, 2026, Nigeria completed the integration of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Public Key Directory (PKD), a significant advancement in global passport authentication. The ceremony, held at the ICAO headquarters in Montreal, Canada, was led by the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap.

This integration is expected to resolve passport verification challenges faced by Nigerian passport holders at select foreign border control points. The Nigeria Immigration Service stated that the integration into the ICAO PKD will enable seamless verification of Nigerian passports within the global border control system.

This milestone reflects Nigeria's ongoing investment in secure digital identity management and international border security cooperation, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. The full participation of Nigeria in the ICAO PKD is anticipated to reduce delays, improve security checks, and enhance the global acceptance of Nigerian passports.
