FG Allocates N32.8bn to Enhance Primary Healthcare Services

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, announced the disbursement of N32.8 billion to bolster primary healthcare services.

This is part of a broader initiative that has seen N339 billion allocated to the Basic Health Care Provision Fund over the past 12 years, with N235 billion released in the last three years under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration. The funding supports approximately 1,000 primary healthcare centers across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, enhancing healthcare delivery, health insurance, and emergency medical services.

The initiative has resulted in 130,000 Nigerians benefiting from emergency medical services, with 35 states establishing emergency medical service structures. Additionally, 48,000 women received free comprehensive emergency obstetric services, and 4,771 women were successfully treated for fistula.

The Minister emphasized the need for state and local governments to contribute their statutory counterpart funds to maximize resources.
