CJHA Supports Tinubu's Defence Plan for Nigeria's Security

The Centre for Justice and Human Rights in Africa (CJHA) has expressed support for the National Defence Plan Committee established by President Tinubu, which is tasked with creating a National Threat Assessment and a five-year Strategic Defence Operations Plan. CJHA's Executive Director, Dr. Ifure Ifure, stated that the 90-day timeframe for the committee underscores the urgency of Nigeria's evolving security challenges.

The committee, coordinated by Major General Adeyinka Famadewa, will identify and rank principal threats, set operational objectives, and determine specific force requirements. Upon presidential approval, the plan will guide future defence spending and procurement.

CJHA praised Famadewa's operational experience as vital for the committee's success and linked the initiative to a broader security reset, including a new counter-terrorism doctrine. The Centre emphasized the need for consistent financial support to ensure the framework's effectiveness, noting that the Tinubu administration has prioritized defence in recent budgets.
