Kyari Urges BOA to Enhance Agricultural Lending Strategies

On August 11, 2026, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, addressed the newly inaugurated Governing Board of the Bank of Agriculture during a retreat in Abuja. He emphasized the need for the Bank to provide affordable finance to smallholder farmers, women, youth, and agribusinesses to boost food production and strengthen food security.

Kyari charged the Board to explore innovative financing mechanisms, including blended finance arrangements and credit enhancement schemes, to de-risk agricultural lending. He highlighted the Bank's critical role in delivering financial services to underserved populations and stressed the importance of timely financing that aligns with agricultural seasons.

Kyari also called for strategic partnerships with various stakeholders to mobilize resources and expand the Bank's reach. He urged the Board to develop a measurable Strategic Roadmap for Repositioning the Bank, ensuring effective governance and accountability.

The Board was inaugurated on July 3, 2026, and Kyari expressed confidence in their ability to reposition the Bank as a more impactful institution.
