FG Launches Committee for Centralized Transport Data System

The Federal Ministry of Transportation inaugurated the Project Implementation Committee for the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project to create a centralized, interoperable, and real-time transport data system for Nigeria. This initiative follows the Federal Executive Council's approval of the Smart National Transport Databank (SNTDB), a digital transport intelligence platform.

The committee was inaugurated by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Funsho Adebiyi, in Abuja. The SNTDB was initially approved in 2012, with the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) tasked to establish it.

The project will be implemented under a 20-year Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) PPP concession to Asia-Arab Investment Nigeria Limited. The committee, chaired by Adebiyi, includes representatives from various organizations and is responsible for overseeing project implementation, monitoring performance, managing risks, and ensuring accountability.

Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, the Director-General of NITT, described the SNTDB as essential for planning, regulation, and decision-making, featuring components like solar-powered intelligent gantries and Traffic Management Centres.
