FG Advocates Integrated Transport Network for Economic Growth

The Federal Government of Nigeria has called for enhanced collaboration among stakeholders in the road, rail, maritime, and aviation sectors to create an integrated transportation system that can drive economic transformation. This initiative was announced by Minister of Works David Umahi at the 19th National Council on Transportation, with Muhammad Goronyo, the Minister of State for Works, representing him.

The government aims to move beyond isolated infrastructure projects to a coordinated system where roads, railways, seaports, and airports work together. Key infrastructure projects identified include the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, Calabar-Ebonyi-Abuja (Trans-Sahara) Highway, and the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe-Maiduguri-Yola corridor.

These projects are designed not only for road construction but also as strategic investments to improve connectivity, stimulate commerce, create jobs, and promote national integration. The projects will incorporate environmentally friendly technologies and are expected to enhance mobility, particularly for agricultural communities.

The Ministry of Works is also adopting rigid pavement technology to improve road durability.
