Nigerian Government Launches NJFP to Boost Graduate Employment

The Nigerian government initiated the National Job Fair (NJFP) on Thursday in Abuja, aiming to close the gap between education and the workplace. The program, coordinated by Mr.

Akubo Adegb, is designed to tackle Nigeria's longstanding labor market challenges by facilitating job placements and strengthening workforce integration. The NJFP is supported by the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which aims to connect graduates with structured workplace opportunities.

Annually, approximately 600,000 graduates enter the workforce, facing significant challenges due to a lack of practical experience. The event featured talent marketplaces and direct interviews to match candidates with job opportunities across various sectors, including technology, education, healthcare, and agriculture.

Ms. Clare Henshaw emphasized the importance of providing adequate support to fellows throughout the program.

The NJFP is part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria's workforce ecosystem and support economic growth by preparing graduates for the realities of the modern workplace.
