Nigeria Advocates Knowledge-Driven Strategy Against Extremism

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in partnership with the PAVE Network, is promoting a shift towards a knowledge-driven strategy to combat violent extremism in the country. This initiative was highlighted during a workshop that marked the unveiling of the 2026 phase of the Prevent and Counter Violent Extremism Knowledge Innovation Resource Hub (PCVE KIRH).

Ms. Iy Mangset, the event director from the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), emphasized the need for a comprehensive, whole-society approach that moves beyond a predominantly security-focused response.

The workshop aimed to increase awareness and enhance stakeholder capacity by utilizing the knowledge hub and encouraging cross-sector collaboration. Mr.

Jay Gaskia, chairman of the PAVE Network, noted that the knowledge hub would bridge information gaps in implementing PCVE strategies. The workshop also discussed revising national policy frameworks and establishing dedicated PCVE desks across ministries to strengthen ownership and facilitate early warning systems.

Key participants included Ms. Margret Yenami and professors Gbemisola Animasawun and Uthman Abdulqadir, who contributed insights on addressing underlying factors of violent extremism.
