Nigeria Reinforces Commitment to Chemical Safety and Health

On June 25, 2026, in Abuja, Nigeria, Mr. Olufowobi Yusuf Adeola, Director of the Food and Drug Services Department at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening chemical safety, public health security, and emergency preparedness.

This statement was made during the second quarter meeting of the National Committee on Chemical Surveillance and Emergency System (NCCSE), which aimed to review the implementation strategies of national guidelines for chemical event surveillance in Nigeria. The meeting, supported by the UK Health Security Agency, brought together representatives from federal ministries, development partners, academia, regulatory agencies, and emergency response organizations.

Mr. Adeola highlighted significant progress made in the past year, including the development and launch of national guidelines for chemical event surveillance and the establishment of a poison information center.

The meeting also focused on enhancing multi-sector collaboration and improving reporting mechanisms for chemical incidents.
