FG Launches LPG Programme to Reduce Cooking Gas Prices

The Federal Government of Nigeria launched the National Grassroots Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Penetration Programme in Bayelsa State, aiming to provide cooking gas to 27,000 households. The initiative was flagged off in Yenagoa on Tuesday by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt.

Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo. This program is part of the Decade of Gas Initiative, which seeks to transition five million Nigerian households to LPG by 2030.

Bayelsa was selected for the rollout due to its status as a major gas-producing state. Ekpo stated that the government has intervened to stabilize domestic LPG prices by prioritizing local supply over exports, contributing to price reductions.

The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on improving energy access, public health, and environmental sustainability. It is expected to reduce indoor air pollution and stimulate investments across the LPG value chain, creating jobs and promoting economic growth.

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, supported the initiative, emphasizing its potential to enhance access to clean cooking energy.
