FG Investigates N120bn Energy Theft in Ikorodu-Sagamu

The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced a crackdown on significant energy theft along the 132kV Ikorodu–Sagamu industrial corridor, where unaccounted power losses have reached 100 megawatts, leading to an estimated annual revenue loss of N120 billion in the electricity market. Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, announced this initiative during a high-level stakeholder meeting with industrial operators, energy regulators, and key market participants in Lagos.

Tegbe mandated a transparent, science-based investigation into the discrepancies between electricity transmitted and what is officially billed by distribution companies. The corridor has become a major industrial hub, but technological monitoring by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) revealed serious loading anomalies and commercial losses.

Tegbe reaffirmed the government's commitment to industrial growth under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that uninterrupted energy supply must be matched with strict accountability. He declared that meter tampering and data manipulation would no longer be tolerated, urging stakeholders to cooperate with investigators to eliminate revenue leakages.
