FG Commits to Sustainable Financing for Critical Care Services

On July 8, 2026, in Abuja, Dr. Iziak Adekunle Salako, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, declared open the 11th Annual Scientific Conference of the Critical Care Society of Nigeria (CCSN).

The conference's theme focused on sustainable financing for intensive care in public hospitals in Nigeria. Dr.

Salako highlighted the critical need for sustainable financing to strengthen the healthcare system, ensuring that critically ill patients can access quality care without facing financial hardship. He noted that the Federal Government recognizes the importance of emergency critical care as a vital component of a resilient health system capable of advancing universal health coverage.

The minister emphasized the necessity for substantial investments in intensive care services, including modern infrastructure and skilled professionals. He also discussed the government's efforts to improve emergency healthcare delivery through the National Emergency Medical Services Ambulance System (NEMSA) and the expansion of healthcare financing initiatives to enhance overall service delivery.
