FG Eliminates VIP Privileges at Airport Entrances

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially scrapped VIP privileges at airport entrances, a decision announced by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, during an inspection visit to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. This move is part of the government's commitment to reinstating a cashless hybrid payment system at airports.

Keyamo emphasized that the exemption of VIPs from this policy has led to significant revenue losses and widespread abuse, particularly in Abuja. He stated that there will be no more VIP treatment at airport gates, as the government aims to fully implement the cashless system by March 1, 2026.

This initiative was initially introduced but faced a temporary suspension by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu due to traffic gridlock at airports. Keyamo has taken direct control of the implementation process, ensuring that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is responsible for overseeing operations related to this policy.
