FG Aims for 2031 Completion of Trans-Sahara Superhighway

The Federal Government of Nigeria is targeting the completion of the Trans-Sahara Superhighway by 2031, as announced by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during an inspection of ongoing work on Section Two in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State. The highway project, which aims to improve connectivity, security, agriculture, and commerce, consists of multiple sections, with Section One covering approximately 123 kilometers from Ebonyi to the Ebonyi-Benue boundary, and Section Two spanning about 173.4 kilometers through Benue, Enugu, and adjoining states.

Umahi emphasized that the completion timeline is contingent on the continuity of project implementation and available funding. He noted that the combined length of Sections One and Two would be nearly 300 kilometers, facilitating better access between states and supporting agricultural produce movement.

The minister also mentioned additional infrastructure works, including an 8.9-kilometer dualized Afikpo bypass in Ebonyi State. He called for community cooperation to ease construction challenges and assured affected property owners of compensation where necessary.
