Nigerians Required to Pay $80 Prepaid Customs Duty for U.S. Shipments

The Nigerian Presidency has confirmed that Nigerians are now required to pay a mandatory $80 prepaid customs duty for postal shipments to the United States. This new charge, equivalent to naira, is a result of a recent policy change enacted by the Government through an Executive Order.

The Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, clarified that this charge is in line with the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The Executive Order affects postal shipments from Nigeria to the United States, impacting the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).

This policy change aims to regulate global postal inflow into the United States and is effective from August 29, 2025.
