Nigerians to Pay $80 for NIPOST Shipments to USA Following Policy Change

The Nigerian government clarified that Nigerians will now pay $80 for NIPOST shipments to the USA due to a recent policy change stemming from an Executive Order signed by the US government. Effective August 29, 2025, all postal shipments from Nigeria to the US, except letters and documents, will attract mandatory prepaid custom duty of 80 naira or its equivalent.

This change follows the US government's suspension of the de minimis exemption for postal shipments globally. NIPOST stated that the new policy will lead to additional Customs checks, potentially increasing waiting times for recipients.

The move aims to align with the US directive, impacting global logistics operations and cargo carriers.
