FG Investigates N120bn Electricity Theft in Lagos Corridor

The Nigerian government has ordered a formal investigation into energy theft along the 132kV Ikorodu–Sagamu industrial corridor in Lagos, where power losses are estimated at approximately N120 billion annually. Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe announced this at a high-level stakeholder meeting, revealing that unaccounted electricity losses in the corridor amount to about 100 megawatts each year.

He directed that a transparent, science-based probe be conducted to understand why the power transmitted exceeds what distribution companies bill. The Ikorodu–Sagamu corridor is a significant industrial area in Nigeria, attracting heavy consumers.

Tegbe stated that the government will not tolerate meter tampering or data manipulation and emphasized that every consumer must be accountable for their electricity usage. He reaffirmed the administration's commitment to industrial growth under President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda while insisting on strict accountability and accurate billing.

The meeting included senior officials from the energy sector, including NISO and TCN representatives.
