Nigeria Targets 2027 for Kano-Maradi Rail Project Completion

The Federal Government of Nigeria has set a target for the completion of the Kano-Maradi rail project by 2027, with the project currently at 60% completion. Ali Bukar Dundubu, the resident engineer in charge of Section 2 of the project located in Dutsinma Local Government Area, Jigawa State, provided updates during a media tour.
The project, which is part of a broader initiative to boost socio-economic activities between Nigeria and the Republic of Niger, is expected to be completed by December 2026 or early 2027. The rail line will connect Kano to Dutsinma and Maradi, with nine sections of work ongoing, except for one section between Katsina and Jibia due to diplomatic issues.
Engr. Abdullahi Yakubu from the Federal Ministry of Transport explained that the entire stretch of the rail line, which includes a main line and a branch line, spans approximately 400 kilometers.
The project is seen as a significant step in enhancing regional connectivity and economic collaboration.
