Nigerian Government to Revive ALSCON, Create 15,000 Jobs with Power Grid Connection

The Nigerian government aims to revitalize the Aluminium Smelting Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) in Akwa Ibom State, promising to connect it to the national power grid, generating 15,000 job opportunities. Minister Adebayo Adelabu visited the plant, acknowledging its lack of reliable power supply for 37 years.

Efforts are underway to complete a 330KVA substation to ensure sustainable power supply for ALSCON. ALSCON, established in 1989 and privatized in 2006, has the potential to boost the economy and reduce foreign exchange spent on raw materials.

Various stakeholders, including RUSAL, NDPHC, and TCN, are involved in finding immediate solutions to the power challenges.
