FG Advocates Transparency in Educational Material Distribution

The Federal Government of Nigeria has called on education officers to ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution of educational materials. This directive was issued by Dr Aisha Garba, Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), during the opening of a five-day Result Area One Regional Thematic Workshop in Uyo on Monday.

Garba, represented by Mr Akpanossom Udoh, Director, South-South, UBEC, stated that the workshop would focus on the book supply chain and track and trace system to guarantee transparency. The HOPE-EDU programme, a collaboration between the Federal Government and the World Bank, aims to deliver quality educational outcomes.

Garba stressed that by November 15, 2026, states must demonstrate readiness to unlock the first round of programme disbursements. Mr Olumayowa Aleshin, Programme Manager for HOPE-EDU, noted that the programme became effective in February 2026 and aims to achieve a one-to-one pupil-to-book ratio in literacy and numeracy.
