Nigeria Launches 2030 Gender Equality Roadmap Initiative

On Wednesday, the Federal Government of Nigeria unveiled a 2030 gender equality roadmap to address gender disparities in the country. The initiative, inaugurated by Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Imma Sulaiman Ibrahim, aims to provide an evidence-based framework for achieving national targets by 2030.

The roadmap serves two purposes: presenting an honest picture of the current state of gender equality in Nigeria and outlining practical steps to achieve the nation's commitments. Ibrahim emphasized that investing in gender equality is crucial for national development, as it strengthens families and communities and contributes to economic growth.

Abdul Kamara, acting Vice President of Regional Development at the African Development Bank, highlighted that gender equality is not just a social objective but an economic imperative, noting that closing the gender gap could unlock significant economic potential for Nigeria. The roadmap is expected to guide the implementation of gender equality commitments and will involve collaboration across various sectors, including government, private sector, and civil society.
