Nigeria Launches Initiative to Boost University Funding

The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled a plan to boost university funding and global competitiveness through the National Universities Advancement Program. Minister of Education Tunji Alausa announced this initiative during a keynote address at the program's closing ceremony.

The program aims to strengthen alumni engagement and establish strategic partnerships to mobilize additional resources for universities. Alausa emphasized that the initiative is designed to complement existing government funding rather than replace it, creating pathways for sustainable innovation, research support, and scholarship opportunities.

The program will involve partnerships with various stakeholders, including federal ministries, the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation, and corporate institutions. It aims to improve financial resilience, expand research opportunities, and enhance the relationship between universities and their alumni.

The initiative reflects the Federal Government's commitment to building university capabilities to compete globally and aligns with the educational reform agenda of President Bola Tinubu's administration.
