France Coach Warns Against Underestimating D'Tigress

Jean-Aimé Toupan, the head coach of the French women's basketball team, has expressed caution regarding the upcoming match against Nigeria's D'Tigress in Group B of the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup. Toupan highlighted that despite Nigeria's recent results, they remain a formidable opponent, recalling France's narrow victory over Nigeria (93-86) during the qualification tournament in Lyon.

He emphasized that past victories do not guarantee future success and urged his team to maintain focus and avoid complacency. Toupan acknowledged the challenges posed by Nigeria, describing the encounter as demanding and emphasizing the importance of preparation.

The World Cup campaign for France will commence against South Korea on September 4, followed by matches against Hungary and Nigeria on September 7. Toupan reiterated the team's ambition to secure a podium finish, aiming to build on their experience and prepare thoroughly for the tournament.
