FIFA Honors Oshoala's Historic U-20 World Cup Performance

FIFA has recognized Asisat Oshoala’s exceptional performance during the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup held in Canada, where she scored seven goals, earning both the Golden Boot and the Golden Ball. Oshoala's tournament began with a single goal in the group stages, but she excelled in the knockout rounds, netting two goals against New Zealand in the quarter-finals and four against DPR Korea in the semi-finals.

Despite Nigeria's 1-0 loss to Germany in the final, Oshoala's achievements positioned her fourth on the list of highest scorers in a single tournament edition. She remains the only African player to win the Golden Boot.

Following this tournament, Oshoala won her first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title with Nigeria and made her senior Women’s World Cup debut in 2015. She has since become one of Africa's most decorated footballers, with six African Women’s Footballer of The Year awards and four WAFCON titles, currently playing for Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal.
