FIFA President Infantino Unveils Grassroots Plan to Boost 2026 World Cup Excitement

FIFA President Gianni Infantino revealed a grassroots initiative to enhance excitement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup by distributing 100,000 footballs in 500 cities across the United States. The tournament, co-hosted by Canada and Mexico, will commence on June 11, 2026, with 48 teams, 104 matches, and 16 host cities spread across the three nations.

Infantino discussed the project during a meeting in Washington D.C., where he highlighted the global festival of football that the event aims to create. The initiative includes establishing base camps for participating teams in various U.S. cities, with around 50 locations currently under consideration.

The tournament is expected to generate a significant economic boost, with an estimated $30 billion in revenue and the attendance of seven million fans worldwide. Mayor David Holt of Oklahoma City praised FIFA's donation as a major highlight of the meeting.
