Kogi Poly Female Students Fear Cultism and Harassment

Female students at Kogi State Polytechnic in Lokoja are reportedly living in fear due to the return of cultism and a "sex for marks" culture. Following the resumption of Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime as rector, disciplinary measures previously enforced by the former management have been abandoned.

Reports indicate that some lecturers are openly soliciting sexual favors from female students, threatening to fail them unless they comply. Specific cases involve demands for payments ranging from N70,000 to N80,000 for passing grades.

A female student reported one lecturer's request to book a hotel room for an encounter, but instead of receiving support, she faced intimidation. Additionally, cult activities have resumed, with nocturnal meetings occurring openly, and a recent initiation reportedly took place near a female hostel.

The lack of action from management and security personnel has exacerbated the situation, leading to concerns about the safety and academic integrity of the institution.
