Ondo State Upgrades Owena Press to Corporation Status

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has officially assented to a bill that converts Owena Press Limited into a corporation, thereby providing a legal framework for the transformation of the state-owned media organization. The bill was passed unanimously by the Ondo State House of Assembly after undergoing the required legislative procedures, including public hearings and committee reviews.

The initiative, which aims to modernize the media organization established in 1989 during a military administration, is expected to enhance operational efficiency and financial sustainability. Speaker Rt.

Hon. Olamid Oladiji emphasized that the reform would empower the organization to deliver efficient print and publishing services.

The chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Olatunji Ifabiyi, noted that the conversion would address long-standing operational challenges.

The reform has been welcomed by stakeholders, including the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ondo State Council, who expressed optimism about the new opportunities it would create for the workforce.
