Oluremi Tinubu to Celebrate Akwet Weaving Heritage in Abia

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu is scheduled to visit Abia State on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to celebrate the renowned Akwet weaving heritage. The visit is confirmed by a statement signed by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Okei Kanu.

During her visit, Senator Tinubu will host Governor Alex Otti and his wife, Priscilla Kanu. The itinerary includes a tour of the Akwet Weavers Cooperative Society in the Akwet Ukwa East Local Government Area, where she will engage with master weavers to gain firsthand knowledge of the craftsmanship that has garnered global recognition for Akwet textiles.

The visit will culminate in a grand civic reception scheduled to commence at 10:00 AM at the Akwet Central School field. This event aims to celebrate the historical significance of the visit and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Akwet nation, bringing together government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, women, youth groups, and stakeholders from the Abia State community.
