Tinubu's Wife Advocates for Local Fabric Support

On Tuesday, during her visit to Akwete in Abia State, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, encouraged Nigerians to patronize locally produced fabrics to enhance their competitiveness against foreign brands. She stated that supporting local fabric production would create more job opportunities, especially for women employed in these industries.

Mrs. Tinubu inspected the hand-weaving processing lines and expressed the Federal government's commitment to initiatives that generate employment for women and alleviate poverty. She advocated for the installation of modern equipment in Akwete fabric production and urged the utilization of financial support she provided for the Akwete research and production center to benefit women workers.

Additionally, she received a chieftaincy title from Abia monarchs and called for cultural unity among various Nigerian ethnic groups to strengthen the local clothing manufacturing sector. Mrs. Cecilia Erondu, the woman leader of the APC in Abia State, acknowledged Mrs. Tinubu's support as part of the government's efforts against poverty and unemployment.
