Anambra State Launches Food Bank for Vulnerable Families

The Anambra State government is set to launch a food bank programme that will focus on providing nutritional support to children aged zero to six years, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. Dr Afam Obidike, the State Commissioner for Health, announced this initiative during a preparatory meeting, as reported by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Stanley Nwako.

Beneficiaries will be assessed at primary healthcare centres and other nearby health facilities to determine their nutritional needs and eligibility. Health workers will play a crucial role in this assessment process.

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of effective management and distribution of food items to ensure they reach those most in need. An extensive sensitization campaign will be launched to inform eligible families about the programme, utilizing various communication channels such as radio, television, and social media.

Additionally, the wife of the Anambra State Governor is preparing a separate programme to support approximately 8,000 vulnerable children, complementing the state’s efforts to address food insecurity and malnutrition.
