First LNG-Powered Containership, MV Sapphire, Makes Historic Berth at APM Terminals Lagos Port

The MV Sapphire, the first LNG-powered containership, made history by berthing at the APM Terminals Lagos Port Complex in Apapa. The vessel, built in 2024 and flying the Singapore flag, has an advanced LNG propulsion system and a capacity equivalent to TEUs.

This event marks a significant step towards sustainable shipping in Nigeria and the wider West African region. Todd Rives, the Managing Director of Lagos Niger Shipping Agency Limited, described the berthing as a historic milestone in the maritime trade of Nigeria.
