Peter Obi Urges Government to Repair Roads First

Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, called on the Nigerian government to focus on fixing the nation's deteriorating road infrastructure before embarking on new construction projects. He made this statement while addressing the need for direct efforts to reconstruct and maintain existing roads, highlighting the importance of the Asaba-Benin road as a vital artery in Nigeria's transport network.

Obi pointed out that the current state of roads across various states, including Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Cross River, Abia, Enugu, Benue, Kogi, and Lagos, has become a significant impediment, leading to persistent traffic congestion and undue hardship for travelers and transport operators. He criticized the government's tendency to initiate new road projects without adequately rehabilitating existing ones, advocating for a focus on repairing critical roads instead of pursuing new ventures that offer limited benefits.
