Federal Government Issues Flood Alert for 24 States

The Federal Government has alerted residents across 24 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) about possible flooding from September 27 to October 10, 2026. This warning was issued by the National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre, which operates under the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, and was signed by Director Usman Abdullahi Bokani.

The alert highlights the risk posed by heavy rainfall, rising river levels, saturated soil, and increased surface runoff. Communities in critical-risk areas include Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Adamawa, Bauchi, Taraba, Rivers, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo.

Specific urban centers such as Makurdi, Lokoja, Minna, Benin City, Asaba, Calabar, Uyo, Aba, Onitsha, Enugu, Owerri, Ado-Ekiti, Lagos, Abeokuta, Akure, Osogbo, and Ibadan are also included. Residents are advised to prepare evacuation routes and secure essential property, while those in high-risk zones should monitor drainage systems and report any changes in water levels.
