Akoko-Edo Council Orders Controlled Water Release from Dam

The Akoko-Edo Local Government Council in Edo State has mandated the partial opening of the Ojirami Dam to manage rising water levels and mitigate flooding risks in surrounding communities. This directive was issued by the council chairman, Hon. Robert Olumole, during an emergency inspection of the dam.
He stressed that the controlled release of water should be conducted under the supervision of engineers to alleviate pressure on the dam and safeguard nearby areas. The situation has been exacerbated by the poor condition of the dam's mechanical opening and closing mechanism, which has not been adequately maintained.
The chairman assured engineers that the council would address the necessary materials for repairs once water levels decrease. In Enwan, a community affected by the dam, residents face severe risks due to flooding and deteriorating infrastructure, including a bridge and access road.
The Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Agomini Kehinde, noted the administration's commitment to rapid response and community protection amid these challenges.
