Anambra Assembly Summons Officials Over Flooding Crisis

The Anambra State House of Assembly convened to address the urgent issue of flooding in the state, which has resulted from persistent rainfall and rising water levels in the River Niger. The flooding has severely impacted various communities, including Ogbaru, Idemili North, and Oyi LGA, submerging markets and farmland, and leaving families stranded.

During the plenary session, lawmakers expressed their concerns over the destructive effects of the floods, which have damaged properties and infrastructure. They resolved to invite relevant commissioners, including Dr.

Clem Aguiyi from the Commission for Environment and Chijiok Ojukwu from the Commission for Physical Planning and Urban Development, to discuss preventive measures. Johnbosco Akaegbobi, representing Nnewi South Constituency II, highlighted the ongoing suffering of residents due to blocked drainage and poor environmental practices.

The assembly's motion emphasized the need for proper floodwater discharge channels and effective waste disposal to mitigate future flooding risks.
