Flooding Submerges Moro Bridge, Traps Commuters in Kwara

On Monday, heavy flooding submerged the already collapsed Moro Bridge in Kwara State, trapping several vehicles and commuters along the Ilorin-Igbeti Federal Highway. The flooding was caused by an overnight downpour that led to the overflow of the Moro River, leaving many passengers stranded on car roofs awaiting rescue.

The bridge, located in the Ilorin West Asa Local Government Area, had previously collapsed on April 30, 2023, after a heavy-duty truck passed over it, cutting off a major transport link between Kwara State and neighboring Oyo State. The Kwara State Government, represented by Engr.

Abdulquawii Olododo, announced traffic diversion measures and promised immediate intervention to alleviate the hardships faced by commuters. Despite assurances, public concern remains high regarding the safety of commuters as flooding intensifies.

Residents have expressed frustration over the prolonged delays in completing emergency interventions and the abandonment of an alternate bridge project.
