Kwara Transport Unions Urge Tinubu on Bridge Completion

Transport unions in Kwara State, represented by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), held a joint press conference in Ilorin to express their concerns over abandoned bridge projects. They specifically called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate the urgent completion of the Oko Olowo Moro and Ohan bridges, which have been neglected since their initiation in 2017 during former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.

The Oko Olowo Moro bridge is a vital route connecting several communities in Kwara North to Oyo State, including Kaiama, Baruten, Kishi, Igbeti, Igboho, and Iseyin. The unions highlighted that the abandonment of these projects has severely impacted economic activities and worsened hardships for residents.

They reported that the collapse of the Ohan River iron bridge has compounded transport difficulties, particularly during the rainy season, leading to unemployment among drivers and risks to commuter safety. The unions urged immediate action from both the federal and state governments to address these infrastructural challenges.
