Food Security: Liberia, Jigawa To Partner On Rice Farming

Liberia's Minister of Agriculture, David Akoi, announced a partnership with the Jigawa state government in Nigeria to boost rice production and enhance food security in Liberia. Akoi's visit to Jigawa focused on studying rice production in Nigeria to gain insights into the entire rice value chain.

Liberia, a country heavily reliant on rice imports, aims to produce at least 70% of its rice consumption to reduce its dependence on imports. The Jigawa state governor, Umar Namadi, commended Liberia for choosing to study rice production in their state, highlighting agriculture as a key sector of the state's economy.

The Jigawa government is implementing innovative agricultural practices, such as irrigation and the procurement of new agricultural equipment, to increase rice production and combat climate change. The partnership aims to improve the economy and livelihoods of the people through enhanced agriculture practices.
