Former Air Chief Sadiq Baba Abubakar Exits Politics

Sadiq Baba Abubakar, a retired Air Marshal and former Chief of Air Staff, has officially announced his withdrawal from politics. He disclosed that he will no longer participate in political contests and will not belong to any political party.

Abubakar made this announcement on May 17, 2026, stating that he intends to continue supporting ordinary Nigerians to the best of his ability. He entered politics shortly after retiring from the military in 2021 and emerged as the major opposition candidate for the 2023 governorship election in Bauchi State, where he lost to Bala Mohammed of the People's Democratic Party.

Following his defeat, there were indications of a potential bid for the 2027 governorship election, with links to the Action Democratic Party surfacing across Bauchi metropolis. However, his recent announcement marks a definitive end to his political aspirations.
