France and UK to Discuss Strait of Hormuz Security Friday

On Friday, France and the UK will co-host a video conference to discuss plans for restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, contingent on improved security conditions. The meeting will be co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

According to a spokesperson from the British Prime Minister's Office, the summit aims to advance efforts toward coordinating an independent multinational plan to safeguard international shipping once the conflict in the region ends. This initiative follows a period of heightened tensions after a US-Israeli strike on Iran in late February, which sparked a regional conflict that brought traffic through the Strait of Hormuz to a near standstill, affecting global oil and gas shipments.

Last week, the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week cessation of hostilities, but talks in Pakistan over the weekend failed to yield a ceasefire agreement.
