Nigeria Joins 39 Nations to Address Hormuz Strait Crisis

Nigeria joined 39 countries in an urgent virtual meeting on Thursday to address the escalating crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping route. The discussions aimed to restore safe passage for vessels, which have faced disruptions due to Iranian actions in the region.

The meeting was convened by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer amid rising global concerns over potential blockades and heightened tensions in the Middle East. Yvette Cooper, the UK’s Foreign Secretary, presided over the meeting, criticizing Iran's actions as reckless and warning that the situation threatens global economic stability.

She disclosed that there have been 25 recorded attacks on vessels in the area, leaving 20,000 seafarers stranded across approximately 2,000 ships. Military experts are assessing strategies to ensure safe navigation, while Prime Minister Starmer indicated that military planners from several countries would soon coordinate a post-conflict security approach.

However, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed caution regarding military intervention, suggesting dialogue with Iran as a more realistic solution.
