Nurse Mary Habila Found Dead After Ministerial Assignment

Mary Habila, a nurse, was found unconscious in her accommodation on June 26, 2026, after attending a ministerial assignment in Abuja, assigned by David Umahi, the Minister of Works. Her close friend and colleague, Anita Baaki, who is a physiotherapist from Benue State, last saw Habila alive when she visited her room to show off a new hairstyle.

Baaki noted that Habila seemed tired and wanted to shower and sleep. Concern arose the following morning when Habila did not respond to calls.

Baaki alerted domestic staff, who forced open the door to find Habila unresponsive on the floor near the entrance. She was immediately taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed her death upon arrival.

Baaki provided a sworn affidavit to the Ebonyi State High Court, stating that her statement was made voluntarily to assist in the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Habila's death. A comprehensive forensic autopsy has been requested to determine the exact cause of death.
