Remembering Ogogo: Nollywood Icon's Legacy Lives On

Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, was a veteran actor in the Yoruba movie industry who passed away, leaving behind a remarkable legacy. Born on October 31, 1959, in Ilaro, he initially worked as an automobile mechanic and spent 13 years at the Lagos State Water Corporation while pursuing acting.

Ogogo began his acting career in 1981 and resigned from his government job in 1994 to focus on acting full-time as Nigeria's home-video industry was gaining traction. His contributions included acting, producing, directing, and screenwriting, with themes often reflecting Yoruba culture and social issues.

Notably, he portrayed Alaafin Ademuyiwa in Kunle Afolayan's 2022 Netflix film, which introduced him to a broader audience and earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards. Ogogo's career spanned over four decades, making him a familiar face in Nigerian cinema.
