FRSC Advances Smart Transport Agenda Amid Road Tragedies

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is committed to advancing Nigeria's transport sector through technology, particularly with the implementation of the smart nation transport databank project. This initiative follows a tragic series of road crashes that claimed 32 lives in Kogi, Ogun, and Kwara states.

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, alongside House of Representatives Speaker Abba Tajuddeen, visited Cairo, Egypt, to further this project, which aims to establish a national transport database for reliable real-time information to support transport planning and infrastructure development. A memorandum of understanding was signed with the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) and Asia Arab Investment (AAI) on June 15, 2026.

The project is expected to enhance road safety and traffic management strategies. The FRSC expressed deep sorrow over the recent crashes, including a fatal incident on July 5, 2026, involving multiple vehicles that resulted in numerous fatalities and injuries, attributed to factors such as tire bursts and driver fatigue.
