Fubara Supports Rigorous Screening of Commissioners in Rivers

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara expressed his support for the state assembly's rigorous screening process for newly appointed commissioners, emphasizing the importance of delivering excellent service to the state. This statement was made during the swearing-in of the first batch of five commissioners who successfully passed the screening exercise conducted by the state legislature on Monday.

The governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, highlighted that the screening process was thorough and that the selected commissioners are expected to excel in their duties. However, four out of nine commissioner nominees were rejected by the assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhul, due to poor performance and inconsistencies in their documentation.

Following this, Fubara is expected to submit a fresh list of commissioner nominees to the legislature, which oversees the 23 local government areas in Rivers State. Notably, none of the eight commissioners have been dismissed in the past fortnight.
