Oyo State Honors Heroes of School Rescue Operation

The Oyo State Government honored soldiers and civilian security personnel who lost their lives during a rescue operation aimed at freeing abducted schoolchildren and a teacher in Oriire Local Government Area. The incident occurred on May 15, 2026, when gunmen attacked three schools in the Ahoro Esinl Yawota community.

The victims were held captive for 57 days before being rescued. During the operation, two teachers, Michael Oyedokun and Esiyan Adegboy, were killed, with Adegboy's body recovered and buried shortly after the incident.

Oyedokun's remains have not yet been found, prompting his family to appeal to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde for assistance in recovering his body. The Oyo State Government expressed gratitude for the safe return of the children and reaffirmed its commitment to support the bereaved families, honoring the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
