UK Warns Citizens Against Travel to 11 Nigerian States

On August 20, 2026, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) updated its travel advisory for Nigeria, advising against all travel to 11 states: Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Katsina, and Zamfara. It also warned against all travel to riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.

Additionally, the FCDO recommended against all but essential travel to Bauchi State and several states in the North-West, including Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Sokoto. In the North-Central region, it advised against all but essential travel to Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Kwara, and Benue states.

The advisory also includes the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and cautions that no travel can be guaranteed safe. The FCDO urged travelers to research their destinations and obtain appropriate travel insurance, noting that insurance could be invalidated if traveling against their advice.
