UK Issues Travel Warning for 11 Nigerian States

On August 20, 2026, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) updated its travel advisory for Nigeria, warning its citizens against all travel to 11 states due to security concerns. The states under the strongest travel warning include Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Katsina, and Zamfara.

Additionally, the FCDO advised against all travel to riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. The advisory also recommended that travel to Bauchi State and several North-West and North-Central states, including Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Kwara, and Benue, should be limited to essential trips only.

The Federal Capital Territory, including Abuja, was also included in the advisory for essential travel only. The FCDO cautioned that no travel can be guaranteed safe and urged travelers to research their destinations and ensure their travel insurance is valid.
