FUTO VC Cancels 24 Aide Appointments Amid Irregularities

Prof. Ikechukwu Dozi, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), announced the reversal of the appointment of 24 personal aides.

This decision came after a summons from the Federal Ministry of Education, scheduled for June 29, 2026. The FUTO registrar, Chiedozi Uba, issued a circular on June 24, 2026, informing the university community about the withdrawal of the previous appointments.

The Ministry of Education, represented by Tunji Alausa, cited irregularities in the appointments, which were deemed inconsistent with the regulations governing Nigeria's federal universities. A letter signed by Dr.

Kareem Olalekan, acting director of university education, highlighted that the appointments violated established procedures and principles of due process. The ministry demanded immediate withdrawal of the appointments and requested documentary proof of compliance.

The Vice Chancellor is expected to appear at the ministry meeting to address these issues.
